This petition is addressed to the County Executive of Westchester County, NY, the members of the Westchester County Board of Legislators, the Mayor of Rye, NY and the members of the Rye City Council.

 As residents of Rye, NY, Westchester County, NY, and other concerned citizens we oppose the construction of Sustainable Playland Inc.’s (“SPI”) planned 95,000 square foot indoor sports field house with two adjoining artificial-turf outdoor playing fields (“Field Zone”) to be located within the footprint of the Playland Amusement Park parking lot.

We, the undersigned, feel that:

The proposed “Field Zone” will negatively impact the property values and quality of life for Rye residents in the adjacent residential neighborhoods as well as the rest of the local community through increased traffic and overflow parking;

The drastic reduction in the number of parking spaces at Playland will call into question  the financial viability and desired success of the Amusement Park, Beach, Pool, Childrens’ Museum and additional proposed amenities at this important Westchester County park; 

There will be severe environmental repercussions from a massive “Field Zone” construction project that will be located in a Flood Zone;

There is the potential for disenfranchisement of lower-income County residents who may not be able to afford use of this private “pay for play” development being proposed for public park land.

Signatories of this petition want the Playland parking lot to remain a parking lot in its current entirety as it stands in December 2013, with no reduction in the parking lot footprint or number of parking spaces either in the main lot or the upper “Pool” parking lot.
