Bunnings Bellambi - We do not need fireworks to celebrate
The issue
The new Bunnings at Bellambi are contemplating a fireworks event on Friday October 27. We need to advise Bunnings that we can celebrate without fireworks.
Research studies show that the loud sounds of fireworks have an adverse effect on wild animals as well as domestic animals. The noise from fireworks causes a great amount of fear, stress and anxiety in wild animals and many of our precious pets. This fear often causes them to flee, jumpiing fences they have never attempted to jump previously and running onto roadways which can result in injured or dead animals as well as being dangerous to the public.
Nesting birds and other small mammal parents abandon their nests leaving their defenceless babies behind. The panic can sometimes cause so much disorientation that wildlife parents cannot locate their nests and their babies die. The noise from the fireworks has also resulted in birds panicking and flying into windows and buildings, or too far out to sea trying to escape the noise. Water birds become entangled in remnants of large fireworks, or ingest pieces, and scavenging animals (both birds and mammals) ingest debris, usually resulting in death.
