Julie Bishop, stand up for girls forced into child marriage

Julie Bishop, stand up for girls forced into child marriage
The issue
Right now, our Government is cutting aid to its lowest level ever.
The consequences are already terrible for people who live in some of the poorest places on earth.
We must repair the damage being done by Julie Bishop’s Government.
The Campaign for Australian Aid is a growing movement of over 65 aid and development organisations, businesses, church and community groups who believe we can and should do more as a nation to end extreme poverty around the world. We aim for bi-partisan support for increasing aid and ensuring that aid’s primary purpose is ending poverty.
Aid organisations and the people they support have already felt the impact of Julie Bishop’s cuts. Plan Australia’s programs to stop girls being forced into child marriage in Indonesia have been cancelled.
Fewer girls are getting an education.
Fewer babies are being screened for preventable blindness and less children can access vaccinations.
There is less support for women who have survived violence.
Australia can do better. It’s time to be a good global citizen.
Australian aid is the contribution Australians make to a fairer and more equal world for everyone.
We’re asking Julie Bishop to announce, before the election, that her Government will match or better the Australian Labor Party’s promise of $800 million additional funding to Australian Aid over the forward estimates, starting with reversing the latest $224 million cut.
Tell Foreign Minister Bishop to stop shirking the Government’s responsibility and increase aid funding.
