Let dogs on leashes into National Parks in Australia
The Issue
It's time to reconsider the blanket ban of dogs in our National Parks camps in Australia. Dogs on leashes or in crates provide no risk to the fauna in our parks. Studies have also shown that the scent from dogs & dog faeces does not effect the behaviour of local fauna.
We would like to see all camp areas open to dogs (as long as they're safely secured) and access to the main hiking trails whilst on a leash.
In the USA, National Parks take a very different approach. Dogs are welcomed to camp and even on some hiking trails. They even have a B.A.R.K ranger program where dogs can earn a a badge for following strict responsible pet owner rules. We feel the Australian National Parks could learn a lot from the USA in this regard. Our mission is to promote responsible dog ownership in parks, in hope we may get in front of some lawmakers in Australia.
