Do NOT Reduce Sentence in Attack on Gay Couple

The Issue

On September 11th 2014, Kathryn Knott and a group of friends shouted homophobic slurs and attacked a gay couple in center city Philadelphia. The victims of this attack suffered black eyes, broken cheek bones and a fractured jaw. One of the victims had his jaw wired shut for eight weeks. The group of 15 left the victims unconscious in an alley.

Knott was convicted in December of simple assault, conspiracy and two counts of reckless endangerment for her role in the assault. This occurred after having turned down a plea deal that would have resulted in probation and community service. Her guilty sentence is 5 ot 10 months in prison, a $2,000 fine and 2 years probation.

"Knott's lawyer, Louis Busico, said he and his client were happy with what happened. Philadelphia Assistant District Attorney Mike Barry said the victims were similarly pleased with the verdict."

Now Knott's lawyer is now requesting to remove the jail time and rather she do a PSA because of how much she has learned. This petition is to implore the judge to refuse to reconsider the verdict. She decided to go to court, was found guilty, and given a sentence. Now she must serve it out.
