My Story

A hunter found me, a malnourished black lab and my sister Cally, a cat in a carrier abandoned in the woods Monday, January 26, 2015, off of Route 48 in the town of Lysander.

The hunter called Lysander Dog Control Officer Dan Boccardo who said it was about 7 degrees outside when he arrived to pick us up.

"The cat was frozen to death in the carrier and the dog was laying close to the carrier," Boccardo said.

My owners were charged with several animal cruelty charges and they face two counts of abandonment of an animal, two counts of failure to provide proper sustenance for an animal, two counts of an act of cruelty to an animal and one count of unjustifiable death of an animal, all misdemeanors.

I was severely underweight and was very weak, but I was able to walk, but had to be lifted into the truck.

We were found in woods near a parking area off of Route 48. We were taken to the Central New York SPCA. The SPCA has named me Hope.

I am a little scared, but very friendly.

The owners said they were going to bring me to the SPCA, but decided to drop us. Cally was alive when we were left on the side of the road. I don’t know why they didn't bring us to the SPCA.

Our owners are due in Lysander Town Court, 8220 LOOP ROAD, BALDWINSVILLE, NY 13027 at 7 p.m. on Feb. 25.
