Save Koarick and Crowley

Save Koarick and Crowley

The Issue

On the afternoon of October 15, 2019, Koarick and Crowley, two very sweet and friendly Pit Bulls, were playing on their 5 acre property.  The property is surrounded by about 90 acres of land, very few neighbors. Crowley took off to chase a squirrel.  Koarick followed.  Their mom, Amanda, jumped into her vehicle right away and began driving around, honking the horn and calling their names.  She contacted police and Animal Control to report them missing.  She also posted on Facebook.

At around 8PM, when she got home from searching, she received a call from a woman about a mile down the road, reporting that she had 2 large dogs in her horse barn and asking whether they belonged to Amanda. She also stated that her horse appeared to be seriously injured.  Amanda immediately went to retrieve her dogs, offering to pay for her horse's veterinary care. When Amanda arrived, she found Koarick and Crowley cowering in the corner of the barn, injured.  Koarick's jaw was seriously injured, possibly broken.  The horse was also injured.  Apparently, the dogs had wandered into the barn through open doors, been spooked and hit by the horse, and retaliated.  On the veterinarian's arrival and examination, the owners decided to have the horse euthanized, even though the horse was standing and eating at the time. Amanda has since paid all veterinary fees associated with the horse.

In the meantime, police had arrived, taken tons of photos of the horse and 2 photos of the injured dogs.  They had also told Amanda that "The dogs stay with us".  She was afraid and unaware of hers and her dogs' rights.  As most of us would, she complied.  Koarick and Crowley are in serious danger of being killed.  They are currently in the custody of Cheboygan (Michigan) Humane Society.  There is a court date on Tuesday, November 5th.  Please let the judge and prosecutor know that Koarick and Crowley are not guilty!  They have been calm and cooperative the entire time in the custody of the Humane Society.  They have shown no signs of aggression.  They were simply frightened, threatened, and protecting themselves.
