Justice for Zehr’s Angels
The Issue
This petition is asking for your support in order to encourage District Attorney Kristyna S. Mills and Judge Eric Sheldon, to give the maximum punishment to Jeffrey D. Zehr, who has been repeatedly convicted of animal abuse and neglect charges. He has contributed to the neglect, abuse, and deaths of multiple animals in his care. Most recently, he dragged a living horse by one leg from his truck and the act was caught on video. The horse was suffering on the ground for two days before he dragged it, and after the dragging had to be euthanized by a vet.
We feel very strongly these violent and careless crimes deserve the maximum punishment allowed in your State. He has been seen moving animals to and from multiple locations and has continued to buy more animals since these charges. This must be stopped. We also ask for the removal of all animals in his care so they have the best possible chance of survival. Finally, we ask that Jeffrey D. Zehr be permanently banned from owning animals in the future.
We are aware that this is not the first case of its kind in your area, referring to the case involving Joanne M. Armstrong and Leroy S. Burnham, who each have 68 counts of Animal Cruelty charges, only a class "A" misdemeanor, and are still allowed to own animals.
It is our opinion based on these charges, and his behavior, that Jeffrey D. Zehr poses a serious danger to society. We urge you to consider the maximum punishment and remove the remaining animals in his possession. An example should be made of this truly disturbing act.
