Stop financing manufacturers of cluster bombs, the weapon that killed my son

The Issue

My son Travis was a United States Marine stationed in Iraq. He volunteered to serve in a unit that was responsible for clearing unexploded cluster bombs, a kind of bomb that breaks up into dozens of smaller bombs and scatters over a large area. Many of these smaller bombs don’t go off until years or decades later — which is exactly what happened when my son tried to remove a bomb like this from a farmer’s field, and was killed when it exploded.

94% of people killed by cluster munitions aren’t in the military of any country, they’re civilians, and 40% are children. That’s why most countries in the world, including the UK, have pledged to never use them again. But bank JPMorgan Chase - a global bank with a big presence in the UK - is not only helping the companies that make cluster munitions, they’re making a profit from it.

Tell JPMorgan Chase to stop investing hundreds of millions of dollars in the companies that make the kind of weaponry that killed my son, and kill hundreds of other innocent people every year.

Each year, more and more countries sign onto an international convention that their military will never use these weapons, because no country is made more secure by killing innocent civilians long after a conflict has ended. JPMorgan Chase has the opportunity to make a strong statement by refusing to provide financial assistance to companies that still make cluster munitions, but instead, JPMorgan Chase provided hundreds of millions of dollars in loans and other financial services to these weapons manufacturers.

JPMorgan Chase will keep providing financial services to these companies unless we stand up and demand they stop making money supporting the manufacturers of these weapons. Banks have responded to this type of public pressure before -- if enough of us speak up, we can get them to do the right thing here, too.

Cluster bombs indiscriminately kill civilians, as well as people like my son who attempt to keep these weapons from hurting innocent people. Tell JPMorgan Chase to stop financing companies that manufacture cluster munitions, the weapon that killed my son.
