Dear Supporters,
We have continued to reach out and communicate with the Ministry of Fisheries and Oceans to make sure a seal slaughter is not started on the West Coast. We remain optimistic that there is no evidence to support the claims of groups who are trying to promote this cruel and ecologically devastating policy.
We wanted to share this new information with you to show how there are a myriad of issues affecting the survival of the Southern Resident Killer Whales (SRKW), including the voracious appetite of their cousins, the Northern Residents. It has been revealed that many of the chinook salmon which the SRKW's prefer are being consumed before they can get to them because of the success of the Northern Orcas.
This is just another example of why we must not allow human interests from the fishing industry dictate policy on protecting wildlife. Seals and sea lions are not to blame for the declining chinook population or the declining SRKW population, and killing tens of the thousands of them as has been proposed would only further disrupt the natural ecosystems at play.
Thank you for your ongoing support for this campaign. We will continue to update you on new developments as they come.
Sincerely,
Jordan Reichert
