Dear Supporters,

It is terrible when I have to update you with the shameful conduct of fishermen supported by the Pacific Balance Pinniped Society, but it is the reality of the arrogant and abject treatment of animals in our oceans. 

Just days ago news broke of a seal being shot in the face and being rehabilitated at the Vancouver Aquarium.  This was likely the result of aggressive people in the fishing industry who harass and attack marine life that "interfere" with their fishing operations. 

Then yesterday, a video was posted on the PBPS Facebook page of a man tossing an explosive device into a raft of sea lions. The man laughs after watching the sea lions disperse at the loud noise. This is harassment of wildlife and should be condemned by conservation services and the DFO. 

This is the culture of violence against animals that is systemic in the fishing industry and which is being promoted by the PBPS.  We already knew they wanted to cull 50,000 pinnipeds, and these reckless acts of violence against seals and sea lions are an example of the abuses that would be perpetrated by them if the DFO grants them a permit. 

Please share this update and petition to encourage people to stand with the Animal Alliance of Canada in opposing violence and harassment of marine life.
