Dear Supporters,
A couple of days ago, we released to the media the plans of the Pacific Balance Pinniped Society to cull 50,000 seals and sea lions in B.C. using cruel and inhumane methods. Global news did a story on our release and interviewed Dr. Andrew Trites Director of Marine Mammal Research at UBC.
In the interview, Dr. Tries reinforces that this cull has nothing to do with science. PBPS claims of historical numbers are inaccurate. Similarly, there is no consideration given to the larger impact this will have on other species such as transient killer whales who feed on pinnipeds.
We're continuing to fight to make sure tens of thousands of pinnipeds are not killed in B.C., but we need your help to continue to get the word out. Please share this post to make sure people know killing pinnipeds to protect salmon is not only bad science, it could have other far-reaching negative consequences for other marine life.
Thank you
Jordan Reichert
