Dear Supporters,
We have been hard at work opposing the misinformation of the Pacific Balance Pinniped Society and recently came upon a report containing their plan for killing seals and sea lions in the Salish Sea.
They want to start by killing 50,000 seals and sea lions, effectively reducing their current population by half. They are calling this mass killing a “derby” style hunt and the methods they plan on using are brutal. Clubbing, shooting, and harpooning tens of thousands of pinnipeds so that they can start “harvesting” them by the thousands each year to send their skin, flesh, and oil to overseas markets.
This all based on their false belief of an overpopulation of pinnipeds, with no research to support such a claim. This is the commercial fishing industry trying to squeeze even more money out of the exhausted oceans after years of over-fishing. They are blaming the seals for low chinook salmon populations when this just isn’t supported by the science. We cannot let them get away with this.
We need your help to continue to get the word out about this corrupt and cruel mass slaughter that lingers on the horizon. If the PBPS gets their way, we will have a new industry destroying our marine life and ocean ecosystem.
