Turn the top of Dappers Lane, Angmering into a NO THROUGH ROAD

The Issue

Dappers Lane is the last country lane in Angmering village and is an important place for recreation and well-being. For many families with children, walkers, cyclists, runners and horse riders, Dappers Lane is the only safe route to the Angmering Park Estate and the South Downs National Park.  But it is becoming increasingly unsafe due to a steadily increasing volume of traffic travelling north out of the village, drivers exceeding safe speeds, and ignoring the No Entry sign into Dappers Lane at its junction with Arundel Road (the old A27 that runs past the Fox pub).

Please call upon West Sussex County Council to close Dappers Lane to all through traffic.  Please also call on  Sussex Police to take action now to prevent traffic entering from Arundel Road and travelling south, hence using Dappers Lane as an illegal cut-through.

They know about the situation, they know it isn't safe, but they are reluctant to take action.  Why? They claim there haven’t been any serious accidents, so it isn’t a priority!  There have been many near misses as most locals can testify.  Are they really waiting for someone to be killed before doing anything? They are putting lives at risk, and it is a miracle that no-one has been hurt or killed so far.

Not only are lives at risk but also the environment and ecology of this ancient woodland and ecosystem.

Construction vehicles for local developments are also using the very narrow northern part of the lane in both directions to access their building sites.  This is against the terms of their planning consent.

So please sign our petition to make Dappers Lane a no through road, prevent lives being lost and ensure that the rules of the road are respected. There is no saving in time using Dappers Lane legally, it is just being used as a cut-through.

Remember, the government has announced a new road-user hierarchy to put the needs of pedestrians and cyclists above that of drivers.
