Excuse absences for any student who is going to the Seahawks victory parade.

The Issue

The City of Seattle, the State of Washington, the Pacific Northwest region, and Seahawks fans around the world are so excited about the Seahawks winning the Super Bowl. It has been 35 years since any Seattle professional sports team has won a title of this magnitude, and the parade will be an event unlike any other. Every fan that is able to go to this parade should be able to do so, and if absences remain unexcused this will prevent some students from attending that wish to go. School is unquestionably a very important thing for us students, but this event is an experience that does not happen every day. A big part of school is creating a community that the student feels comfortable in. This parade is a community event that will strengthen the bond between the student and city.

We understand that we are still allowed to go to the parade, even though our absences will be unexcused. But given the circumstances, we ask the Seattle Public School district to please excuse any absence regarding any student who wishes to go to the parade on Wednesday.
