Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo is responsible for the Essex County deer hunt, which is an annual slaughter that takes place in the South Mountain and Hilltop Reservations. South Mountain's hunt was January 17 and 19th. The hunt will take place in Hilltop Reservation on Jan. 31, Feb. 7, Feb. 2 and Feb. 9. Make-up days are Feb. 14 and 16.

Since the inception of this cruel hunt in 2008, over 2,000 deer have been killed. Essex County is now entangled in the perpetual killing of deer with no end in sight. These killings lead to higher reproduction, as hunting does not reduce deer fertility.
