Yesterday, 11/25/2019 the Columbus Statue was doused in red paint yet again.
Obviously the people do not feel heard. Throughout the process of the petition I created, I've learned there has been a comprehensive plan to address the display of the statue since it was originally doused in red paint in protest in 2017. However, that information has not been passed from the Mayor's office adequately to the people or the media, and the media has failed to investigate and inform the people of the process. In fact, we are just one month away from an official appeal process being opened to the public for the review of public monuments.
I will be reaching out to my contacts in the Mayor's office to encourage the Mayor to make a statement to news media about the Committee To Address Commemorative Works, that was created to review monuments. I will also, yet again reach out to news media asking that they interview me for a more comprehensive discussion on the relocation of the statue to a more appropriate location. Stay tuned for updates.
