Petition updateTake down the Columbus Statue in Johnston Rhode IslandMedia Blackout of Petition

The media and the mayor's office is continuing to publicly ignore this petition. The perspective of those who believe the statue should be moved to a place such as a museum that does not glorify it belongs in this discussion.

So far, the news media has painted two black and white sides of the story, one of Italian Americans in Rhode Island identifying with the statue and wanting it moved to Federal Hill, and that of destructive social justice warriors who just want to destory public property. Our side deserves attention as well. There are Italian Americans in Rhode Island who do not want to continue glorifying a rapist and murder. And we offer the reasonable compromise of putting the statue on display in a museum with proper context and respect to our indigenous communities.

I've reached to mayor Jorge Elorza's office asking for a personal meeting with the mayor, where I will hand him the petition myself and discuss with him our concerns. Meeting or not I will go to the Mayor's office petition in hand asking to speak to him and asking that it be delivered to him.

Thank you everyone for your signatures and support. I will do my best to make your voices heard and make sure that if the mayor makes the wrong choice, history will know he had every option to make the right one.
