I want to be clear in this petition as well, that it is not appropriate to relocate the Statue to historic Federal Hill. That does nothing to acknowledge the inappropriateness of glorifying someone who committed crimes against humanity, and in fact would further glorify his image. Not all Italian Americans are interested in rejecting facts and history for the sake of "tradition". And regardless of how many Italian Americans feel otherwise, I don't see how that is relevant to doing what is right and just. And glorifying this statue is not right or just. The statue should be in a museum or other appropriate place where it can be displayed in the context of the full history of the atrocities committed by Columbus, and where it can not be construed that this is an individual who is being glorified in present day.
