Hello, my name is Kelsey Brown. I’m 14 years old. With Covid cases going down and transmission being lower than ever, we have more than deserved the right to show the world what the cast and directors of Matilda have been working on. If you take a look at the local theaters, they are near full capacity and they do it safely with masks worn constantly and a seat between every group of people that are seeing the show together. This is the way to do it while being safe with Covid. Performing for a nearly empty theater really lowers morale and makes all of our hard work seem worthless. If we were to have all of our friends and family watch our performance together while staying safe, it would boost the experience for everyone. According to research by the University of California San Francisco, 80% of the population wearing a mask would do more to reduce the Covid spread rate than a full lockdown and quarantine. If we were to make every audience member wear a mask and have crew take temperatures at the door, there would be virtually no risk of spreading Covid at our show. If an audience member refuses to wear a mask or shows a temperature above 100.4° Fahrenheit then we can safely send them home to reduce any risk of spreading disease.
