Since it’s initial removal nearly 20 years ago, wrestling at BYU has been missed by many in the community both local and far. Within the last 6 years, there have been a group of BYU students who have fought to bring the opportunity of growing in the sport of wrestling back to the students here at BYU. The accomplishments of those who have competed in the NCWA representing BYU as much as has been allowed are nothing short of impressive. The competitive nature of the team is apparent, having produced two Academic All-American teams, 8 All-American finishes, 1 Finalist, and a 4th place finish at the NCWA national tournament all in the brief period of its existence.

Putting aside the immense athletic success the group has achieved, the team has done much to help fulfill BYU’s mission statement which includes making “their own contribution toward the balanced development of the total person.” The example of integrity, honesty, and dedication to upkeep Christlike behavior set by BYU wrestlers that have competed has been seen both in the surrounding community of Utah Valley as well as across the nation as they have competed. Wrestlers from BYU have also done well to follow Jesus Christ’s commandment to “Go forth and serve” being actively involved in giving back to the local community through frequent service opportunities.

As wrestlers and as students of BYU, to see such a fundamental part of our lives and development denied us has been nothing short of disappointing. Programs across the nation are facing extinction in this great sport. Help us to keep BYU from being one such program!
