Strict Traffic Rules for Driver & Pedestrian Safety for Food Delivery App Operators

Strict Traffic Rules for Driver & Pedestrian Safety for Food Delivery App Operators

The Issue

Across Mumbai City and others parts of India the food industry has seen a huge growth in the delivery segment fueled by Food Delivery App Operators such as Swiggy, Scootsy, Uber Eats and other smaller localized players

The Delivery boys are under pressure to deliver the food at the earliest once the order is received. In this hurry they often break traffic rules, jump signals, drive on the wrong side of the road, park illegally in crowded areas where they need to make the delivery, etc

The delivery boys are paid a fee per delivery and thus they have to maximize their Income by doing the maximum deliveries and that is the main reason for the flouting of the traffic rules

I appreciate that the delivery boys need to earn more as they have their own responsibilities but doing so by putting not just pedestrians and other motorists but their own lives at risk is a big threat in a civilized society

The real issue is not the drivers but the food delivery app operators who want to stay ahead of competition and push the drivers to be quick when it comes to delivery thereby risking the drivers life

I have a few suggestions and I shall submit the same in person to Respectable. Amitesh Kumarji who is Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Mumbai once this petition catches up
