It was a couple of years or more ago that I closed my petition regarding the repair and upgrading of the Embankment Dam along the canal from Fairport to Pittsford. About 270 people signed it, and at the time, I mistakenly felt we have made our point, so I closed it.

The group railing against the Canal Corporations EEIP plan to make this very dangerous canal safe, have come up with all sorts of unfounded, unscientific and downright ridiculous ideas to stop this important safety work, as defined by many engineering companies, Dam Engineers, NYDEC, FEMA and many more.

So we, the Erie Canal Neighbors Association would like to renew my original petition to demonstrate to the authorities that we have their back on this vital work. Canal Embankment Failure will be horrific for those living in Crystal Springs and Bushnells Basin. We need this work done - vegetation removal to inspect the dam, slopes regraded to eliminate slumping, gouges repaired, etc. It's vital work, and the longer it's put off, the greater the chance of a calamity.
