The Issue

George Marks has been in New York State for over fifty years; he came to the United States before turning sixteen years old with his mother. Under Section 320 of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), Marks legally had the right to acquire citizenship due to him being under the age of 18.

Throughout Marks' time in the states, he successfully opened two businesses. Around this time, George met his late wife, and they had four children. George was known as the provider for his family. However, law enforcement officials have forcefully taken away that responsibility.

Marks leaves behind his four children and seven grandchildren. Marks has been absent from the physical presence of his family for 14 years. During this time, his health has significantly declined. Marks is battling kidney disease. He has expressed to ISHC staff on several accounts the seriousness of this matter. Unfortunately, his medical concerns have not been taken into consideration. Marks could only receive the proper medical treatment outside the facility.

**Exciting News:** After months of tireless advocacy, our community member George Marks has finally been released from the detention center and joyously reunited with his family after 14 years of unjust incarceration!

However, the fight is not over. George is still facing deportation, putting him at the risk of being separated from his four children and seven grandchildren.

We urgently need your help to keep George here in the US. Stay tuned for more information as we continue our efforts to ensure justice and prevent the unjust deportation of George Marks. Your support can make a significant difference in keeping this family together.
