Transgender people cannot be changed. However, conversion therapy attempts to change them regardless. As you can expect, this has consequences. A survey of 28,000 transgender people found that conversion therapy survivors are more than twice as likely to attempt suicide and 1.5 times more likely to experience "severe psychological distress" than those who undergo other types of therapy. 

In a time where transgender identities are being debated by the public and political figures more than ever before, it is increasingly important to ban conversion therapy for transgender people. In the UK, degrading and dehumanising practices should not be accepted and should be banned. Trans people will not change, regardless of other people's attempts to change them. 

The government has promised action on this issue previously but didn't do anything to fulfill that promise. It is time to show in numbers that this is an issue people care about.
