Media work, university workshops, and upcoming Nairobi Conference (20 Nov Campaign Update)

Thank you for joining the call for Japan to endorse the Safe Schools Declaration.
We have surpassed 15,000 signatures in the past 24 hours, and we now have 15,013 people signed onto this petition via Change-org (14,842 people) and child-friendly website “Compass for Tomorrow” (171 people).

◆ Media Work: Online media “Politas TV” featured the Safe Schools Declaration

Last week on the 11th of November, Tokyo-based online media “Politas TV” hosted a special session on the Safe Schools Declaration, and the anchor Ms. Nikki Tsukamoto Kininmonth and the SSD Japan Campaign members engaged in in-depth discussions.

◆ Workshops: We are engaging with young learners at schools & universities

Throughout the SSD Japan Campaign, we are working with the Youth Team members to promote lectures and workshops on the Safe Schools Declaration, to engage with young learners and teachers in schools and communities.

In October, the Campaign members visited Tokyo University and Juntendo University as guest speakers, and held discussions with university students.

◆ 5 Days to the Nairobi SSD-5 International Conference!

Next week on the 25th and 26th of November, countries around the world convene for the Fifth International Conference on the Safe Schools Declaration in Nairobi, Kenya.

The SSD Japan Campaign member will also attend the Conference, and we are now pushing for the last minute advocacy requesting the Government of Japan to attend the Conference.

The two-day Conference is expected to feature implementation updates from endorsing countries of the Declaration, testimonies from children and teachers affected by conflict, and strengthened accountability.
