Thank you for your ongoing engagement in urging Japan to endorse the Safe Schools Declaration.

◆Blog◆ Speakers from Norway, Kenya and Japan discussed prospects for Japan’s endorsement at the September IDPEA webinar

On the 9th of September, the International Day to Protect Education from Attack (IDPEA), we hosted the webinar “10th Anniversary of the Safe Schools Declaration: an Outlook on Japan’s Endorsement.”

The guest speakers included: Ms. Signe Engli from the Norwegian Embassy in Tokyo; Dr. Salome Maina from the Kenya Ministry of Education; Mr. Shuhei Nishiyama from the ICRC (International Committee of the Red Cross); Ms. Sayaka Matsukura from Ina-Gakuen Junior High School of Saitama Prefecture; and Mr. Daisaku Hiraki from the House of Representatives, the Diet of Japan.

Please find in our blog the highlights from the webinar, where the diverse speakers shared good practices to protect education from attack, and the significance of Japan endorsing the Safe Schools Declaration.

=============================

As shared in the previous update, the Government of Kenya is hosting the Fifth International Conference on the Safe Schools Declaration in Nairobi next month on the 25-26th of November. The Conference webpage has opened, with more details of the two-day programme available.

The SSD Japan Campaign is communicating with the Japan government officials in hopes that Japan attends the Nairobi Conference, and joins the 121 countries endorsing the Declaration.

We are grateful for all forms of support you could offer to help the Campaign petition growing, in the run-up to the SSD-5 Conference!
