August Dialogue Session, IDPEA Online Action, and more! (29 September Campaign Update)

◆Blog◆ Actor Sahel Rosa & UNIC Director Kaoru Nemoto get together for a dialogue session on education in emergencies

On the 27th of August, Iran-born actor in Japan Ms. Sahel Rosa and the UN Information Centre Tokyo Director Ms. Kaoru Nemoto sat down for a dialogue live-streamed online. During the session, the two speakers shared their experiences with people displaced by armed conflicts, and their observation into the importance of ensuring quality education for all.

The Youth Group members active in the SSD Japan Campaign also joined the dialogue, to discuss ways to connect with others and to uphold the international law. Please find the highlights of the dialogue in our blog.

◆Social Media Action◆ Thank you for taking part in the IDPEA Action!

On the International Day to Protection Education from Attack (9th September), we’ve had people sharing this petition webpage online, and 321 people have newly added their names to the petition as a part of the IDPEA Social Media Action.

We are grateful for your active participation in spreading the word, and let’s keep pushing further to attain 30,000 signatures as our next goal!

◆Date Confirmed◆ The 5th SSD International Conference to be held this November in Nairobi

Since 2015, the International Conference on the Safe Schools Declaration every 2-3 years, as a milestone where countries get together for stocktaking on progress and good practices. Its Fifth Conference will be held in two months, on the 25-26th of November in Nairobi, Kenya.

Along with states, the Conference will welcome wide ranges of partners from international agencies, academia, and aid organisations. For non-endorsing countries, it is an ideal opportunity to announce their endorsement and to join the global initiative led thus far by 121 countries.

As the SSD Japan Campaign, we are advocating the Government of Japan to attend the Nairobi Conference, and to announce its endorsement of the Safe Schools Declaration as the world commemorates its 10 year anniversary.

We appreciate all kinds of support you could offer to keep this Campaign growing in the coming weeks, and to urge the Japan Government to endorse the Declaration.
