The Issue

I am writing to unite the Basehor Community and express the strongest opposition to the rezoning request PRZ-002-25 from R-0 to P-R and to PPDP-002-25, the Preliminary Development Plan, which has the potential to significantly affect our community in Basehor, KS. As a concerned citizen whose daily life would be fundamentally altered by these changes, I urge the Planning Commission to recognize the profound impact this proposal would have and to DENY this request.

The proposed rezoning is not in the best interest of our community. The transition from an R-0 to a P-R zoning classification could lead to an increase in high-density housing developments, which are renowned for overcrowding issues. This will result in unsafe, overcrowded roads that were not designed to accommodate a substantial increase in traffic. Moreover, the change would impose higher taxes on current residents to fund the expanded public services needs and expansions of our School District (More BONDS!), thereby placing an undue financial burden on the community.

In addition to the infrastructural and financial concerns, our schools will face overcrowding if the development goes forward. The already limited resources of our educational institutions would be further strained, compromising the quality of education our children receive. It's vital that we think about the future of our schools and our students who deserve an environment conducive to learning.

Another crucial aspect to consider is the quality of housing that will be constructed under this plan. DR Horton is the largest and Worst Home Builder in the United States!  There is a real worry among residents that the homes built will not meet the expectations of new homeowners, featuring substandard construction, design flaws, and safety issues. This not only affects the new homeowners but can also diminish the overall appeal of our community, affecting property values and community satisfaction.

I urge you to sign the petition, join the fight, and make sure the Planning Commission to does the right thing. Denying the rezoning request and preliminary development plan will ensure the safety, well-being, and future prosperity of Basehor's residents. It's more than just a zoning issue; it's about preserving the integrity and stability of our community.
