Tonight, I will be attending Delta City Council’s regular meeting, where I will be handing in your signatures. I hope that my local politicians will make banning shark fin trade a priority.
By implementing this bylaw, the City of Delta will become a leader in shark conservation and hopefully inspire the rest of British Columbia and Canada to follow suit. It is estimated that up to 73 million sharks are killed for their fins every year, Canada should be part of the solution to stop this.
I invite all of you to leave messages for the mayor of Delta here on my petition page, or email her directly at mayor@delta.ca before tomorrow night’s meeting. You can tell her why you our oceans and our sharks are important to you. I will make sure she gets your signatures and messages. This will create additional encouragement to ensure that this bylaw is approved and implemented.
Thank you again for all of your support and comments and I hope that by setting the example in Delta, we can gather enough momentum to convince the province of BC to ban shark fin import all together.
If you haven't already, please share this petition. Together we can aim to reach 50,000 signatures by tomorrow night!! Thank you for your support!
You can read more about the campaign in an article published in 'The Province': bit.ly/2levmE8.
