I am inspired by your support. We are 32,000+ voices strong, from 85 different countries!
As we prepare to celebrate International Ocean Day on June 8th, I am encouraged by this mobilization, and also deeply concerned about the environmental consequences of the quickly declining Shark population in our oceans. We need sharks for the balance of both life in water and on earth.
Last year, a total of 170,000 kg of fins were imported into Canada — a 60% increase over the last five years. Canada needs to act fast to reverse this tendency.
I will be delivering your signatures to the mayor’s office and the creation of a Bylaw will hopefully be discussed in the next municipal council's regular meeting on June 18th.
I hope that one of my next petition updates will be to celebrate mayor Lois E. Jackson as a leader for having passed a bylaw to prohibit the sale and trade of shark fins and shark fin products.
Again, thank you for your support. If you haven’t done so yet, please share this petition!
