Johor's Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar had declared the change of the state's rest days to Friday and Saturday instead of Saturday and Sunday which it had already take effect from Jan 1, 2014.
The change could lead to higher manpower costs, which could in turn lead to higher prices for consumers, said companies and stakeholders in Singapore.
The shortcoming is that even if the Johor workforce, economy, banks (are operational) on Sunday, the rest of the surrounding economic centres in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur are not working that day. So, it's not going to be as effective a workday.
Many countries observe Saturday and Sunday as rest days and it will be hard for Johor to attract more foreign investors to come here for business investment.
Besides, most of the parents who are working in private sectors with their rest days on Saturday and Sunday would be hard for them to have a family day or traveling plan with their kids if Sunday is a normal school day.
Hence, we, Bangsa Johor, are strongly request Johor's Sultan and Johor state government to consider our sincere petition that to change the current Johor's official rest days back to Saturday and Sunday.
