CALL TO ACTION
On Tuesday September 21st, 2021, from 4:30-6:00pm at the District Office "6510 NW 62nd Ave, Johnston, IA 50131 "right across from the Middle School. The JCSD Board of Education will be holding a special board meeting to discuss and vote on whether or not to strip the freedoms of the families, students, and staff of the Johnston Community School District. Even though the meeting is not open to public speaking. I highly encourage you to go in person to show support against this mandate. More information down below.
Hello, I would like to first start off by saying thank you to all of you for signing my petition. I never imagined it would get this much attention and am so grateful that something I started could blow up this big. With that being said, after a school board meeting on Wednesday, September 15th, 2021, at 8 a.m., where the Johnston Board of Education met, discussed, and made the decision to enforce a mask mandate on buses starting on Monday, September 20th, 2021. And to table the discussion on a mask mandate for the whole district to a later date. That date has been chosen and is Tuesday, September 21st, 2021, from 4:30-6:00pm. However, they are not open to public speaking. I still encourage you to come with signs and to show in person how many people are against this mask mandate. Come early and fill the room and parking lot. Students and parents are encouraged to attend.
Sadly, there is still the possibility of the mask mandate being passed, and if it does, here are some next steps we, as a community, can take to try and hold on to our freedoms. Religious and Medical Exemption Form these are available from Johnston. They are very easy to fill out and have to be notarized. Also, there is a very important election on November 2nd, 2021. And if our voices aren’t heard and reflected upon by the people currently on the JCSD Board of Education, There are currently three candidates that are very open about being against mask mandates for the District. These three candidates are "Derek Tidball- https://www.derekforjohnston.com/ Clint Evans- https://evans-jschoolboard.com/ and Deb Davis- https://www.deb4johnston.com/" You can see and meet with them this Thursday, September 23rd, 2021, from 6:00-7:30pm. And if you are not from Johnston, i highly encourage you to get involved in your local school board elections as they have extremely low turnout but have huge impacts on students', like me, daily lives.
Thanks,
Kaden Long
