Johnson & Johnson: Pay for surgeries, as well as pain and suffering, for the thousands affected by your faulty DePuy hip replacements.
Their website says, "We help doctors and nurses care for patients, heal the sick and restore the joy of good health."
Yet they refuse to pay for essential surgeries for over 8,000 victims of a faulty product. Instead of healing the sick, they are making people sick- and not doing anything to make it better.
Six years ago- at the age of 42- my father received double hip replacements from DePuy Orthopaedics, Inc. - a company owned and run by Johnson & Johnson. In the past two years, both of his hip replacements had been recalled. Recently, they decided to pay some of the 8,000 individuals affected by this faulty product (which was causing necrosis, bone chipping, fluid masses around joint, and other dangerous side effects). However, Johnson & Johnson only paid some of the 8,000 victims- my father's faulty hips were not included. There are many who received faulty hip replacements that don't fall into Johnson & Johnson's settlement, because it had to have occuredd before a certain date that Johnson and Johnson determined.
My father had to get the both surgeries before he could receive a settlement because his high cobalt levels were giving serious health problems. An average person can have .3 milligrams of cobalt in their system. My father's level were above 1.0 milligrams before he underwent surgery- and they are not decreasing. He has spent over a year going through painful surgeries and recovering. How much is a year of his life worth? More than nothing, which is what Johnson & Johnson believe.
We need to make Johnson & Johnson pay for the families lives they have destroyed. They market themselves as people who care and support the family- but now my parents are paying almost $200,000 for his surgeries. That's not right. Help me show Johnson & Johnson that what they are doing is not right, and they need to compensate ALL parties for surgeries, as well as pain and suffering.

Now they have the opportunity to make these words turn into actions. I hope that they do. I hope they finally decide to put the well-being of the people they serve first.
