UK Government to reinstate funding to Combat Stress to support veterans mental health
The Issue
The U.K. government have removed funding to Combat Stress, the U.K.’ leading veterans mental health charity, stating the NHS will now provide new specialist services within the community; however, the NHS do no have experience or expertise to manage veterans complex mental health issues such at PTSD.
Combat Stress has over 100 years of experience of working with veterans, providing specialist treatment in secure centres were veterans can share their experiences alongside other veterans whilst receiving treatment, education and the skills to manage their mental health conditions. This builds the comradeship which is carried over to a pier support service where veterans support other veterans within the community. This service can not be delivered in a community environment by the NHS on an individual basis.
