Investigate censorship on Reddit!

While Facebook censorship has gotten a lot of well-deserved attention recently, it is only the tip of the iceberg.

Reddit.com is a lesser known, although arguably more influential, social media site. It is a website where users can upload links to content, vote on which content is the best, and comment. Everything from articles, videos, pictures, memes, etc. Popular posts reach the front of the site and receive large volumes of traffic from around the world. Many items seen trending on Facebook, and in the media, often start going viral on Reddit. The Reddit community is a sleeping giant -- it is very influential and often under appreciated.

Many posts submitted to Reddit prompt action from a very active community and go viral nationally, and worldwide. Examples include; Sapphire's story, protests, political activism, user interviews of celebrities and notable people, the list goes on.

Once a story becomes popular on Reddit, it has far reaching consequences. This is usually a good thing, but not always.

  • Unfortunately, there is a dark side.

Reddit admins and mods appear to have their own political agenda. One which they carry out at the expense of their users, and the public good as well. Users and posts that do not agree with their opinions are often subjugated, silenced, and attacked. These censored posts are often related to conservative viewpoints.

During the 2008 Presidential Election, Barack Obama has a very active userbase on Reddit that likely helped propel him to win the Democratic Nomination, and the Presidency. Any posts critical of Obama were usually suppressed.

Reddit is broken into multiple sections, or 'subreddits'. Each section has it's own subject, or focus. Everything from news, movies, television, politics, science, advise on various subjects, hobbies, etc.

Each subreddit has its own list of moderators who are there to serve as janitors, and clean up the trash. Each subreddit has its own rules, but how those rules are enforced are often arbitrary, subjective, and contradictory. Even posts that follow all of the numerous and indecipherable rules are removed under dubious circumstances, that appear to be rooted in the mods desire to silence free speech, political opposition, and intellectual debate.

This is entirely un-American.

What is worse, there is even an entire subreddit of extreme-leftist, facist, radicals that openly promote hate speech and violence towards anyone that doesn't hold their same ideology. They often organize brigading mobs to go after users or posts that they don't agree with in an attempt to intimidate and silence.

They openly coordinate to 'doxx' users, by publishing their personal details online in an attempt to incite violence and harassment against users and their families at home and at work. When this does not work, they result to something known as 'swatting', where they call in a fake report to a police emergency line about a hostage crisis at the users home. Many times police swat teams raid these homes and people are injured or traumatized.

The Reddit owners/administrators are aware of this, and have taken little to no action to address it. Even more disconcerting, many of these fascists that engage in these tactics seem to have access to the personal information of Reddit users that would only be available to the owners/administrators of Reddit.

Despite being against the sites Terms of Use, these abuses remain.

To address these issues, contact your local representatives in the House and Senate.
