On July 23rd 2019, Officer Lucas Aragon was recorded on his own body cam stating "why don't we just go help so if we can, shoot this guy." moments later he was directed to the location of Joshua M. Vigil. Josh was reported to be in a mental state by witnesses, responding officers were aware of his mental state. Moments after making initial contact Officer L. Aragon fired the first shot.

Officer Aragon had shown intent on firing his service weapon that day. He was allowed to remain on duty despite his concerning comments. Officer Aragon pre meditated killing a living human being his victim not yet known. He said in his official statement to investigating authorities that he observed Josh turn right to either fire at or take cover from officers. Officer Aragon then fired the first shot resulting in a barrage of bullets into a mail room of a senior living apartment complex, hitting Josh 20 times from head to toe.

Officer Aragon showed a blatant disregard for human life that day, he is a danger to society and we do not need people such as this on the police force. He needs to be removed from service and stripped of his badge. He has shown his intent in being a police officer of Colorado Springs is to kill
