By law the poor have to survive off £73.10 benefits and although get housing benefit they have to still pay benefit cap and council tax. I get £55 a week with just short of £65 a month NHS pension. I am denied as you know my State Pension till 66yrs in 2020... Now I am not the only woman having issues with history of domestic violence as we are lumped in among all those that are needing support from benefits... so like others with needs in the present system there can be gaps of 6 - 8 weeks of payment and this leads to system generated debts that are then chased up with bailiffs and court orders... the court has ordered that £16.86 be taken weekly from my £55 a week.. and in this is the chase for the council tax from the property were I was attacked... which seems perverse. Today I also received a letter from the London Borough of Hillingdon to chasing me for further said council tax arrears on this year..... I simply cannot cope... I have been hungry as I had to get some new glasses my eyesight as been failing me. My optician kindly got me NHS glasses and lens but I still had to pay £40 for them. My right eye prescription was very much needed. But thankfully there is no pathology to retina or eye lens. All the time my perpetrator "husband" as left me penniless no contact and no remorse no offer of payment for damages to my life... My case is like many and women are trying desperately to rebuild their lives and heal while the systems fails us. Today I was told by a prominent member of the council that I am too obsessed with this campaign I need to move on... This is why I am needing to campaign as the system will not let women move on. There has to be a challenge to the failings of the system. But a ray of hope came today with a talk with John and he is eager to help get the message across for a need to reform. I have also asked him to challenge government as to where the said £20 million has gone that was supposed to be for helping women survivors of domestic violence. The front-line are not seeing any support from this.. So clarity of accounts from government is needed. No woman should be getting all this stress and hassle and be pounding for monies she simply as not got because her perpetrator left her penniless.
