Make Military Service Dogs "Military Service Members" with retirement "adoption benefits"

The Issue

As a U.S. Army (OIF) Veteran, I have had first hand experience watching Military Canines search for explosive materials and protect our Service Members, yet they are considered "excess equipment" and often are not adopted. Instead, they are euthanized in shelters away from the United States. If Law Enforcement Canines are considered Officers, then why are our four pawed heros not considered Service Members? They go through rigorous training, they get deployed, and they EARN their freedom. How dare we enslave an animal, ask them to do what 99% of Americans aren't willing to do themselves, and then throw them away after all their sacrifice. I want Military Service Canines to have "Adoption Benefits", so that whether they are located within CONUS or O-CONUS, they will have the right to be returned home and be adopted. We OWE this to these brave Dogs that we send out into battle and harms way. We wouldn't treat our Veterans this way, these Military Service Dogs ARE Veterans. We need start thinking about the impact we impart on the animals we bring into service. If we depend on them, then we owe it to them to do the right thing. Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage, are values that transcend to our Canine counterparts, because we need it from them. Please support this cause, we are their voice.
