In 2008 the UCLA Medical Center changed its name to the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. I feel the name should be changed from Ronald Reagan to Sir Alexander Fleming (founder of penicillin), Sir Frederick Banting (creator of insulin), or, Dr. Craig Venter (Chief Scientist on mapping the Human Genome). All of the aforementioned men have made leaps in medical progress and have contributed to the betterment of humanity as opposed to the former president. Ronald Reagan not only has caused massive damage to the working class and minorities with his economic policies, but he has also been the reason why the AIDS epidemic had gotten as worse as it was due to not acknowledging it. By refusing to bring the subject to the public at large, Ronald Reagan had hindered any progress that could have been made and because of that, he was a hinderance to medical progress and the betterment of people as a whole. Because of these reasons, I urge the President Johnese Spisso and Vice Chancellor John Mazziotta do everything in their power and change the name of the medical center.
