Stop the Mine!

Please help us protect this pristine natural habitat right on top of our water source and home to two species of retiles that are on the endangered species list. We draw our drinking water from aquifers that run underneath the proposed mine and are worried that the water will be contaminated by the mining activity. Nothing can be done to remedy any contamination once it occurs. OK Industries proposes to destroy this piece of forest bordering onto Thetis Lake Park, which includes a 700 year old Douglas fir, to blast the rock from underneath for the next 25 to 35 years. Only two properties north operates a Nature Daycare which hosts children from up to 80 families and which will be severely impacted by the noise and dust from the operation.

We, concerned citizens and inhabitants of the Highlands and the Greater Victoria District, propose that there are other more suitable areas to draw rock from. We are not allowed to walk ! in the Sooke watershed which supplies Victoria with their water, how can it be that blasting on top of our water source is deemed acceptable by the Provincial Government? Our community is opposed to this operation to go forward and we will not allow the Province to override the wishes of our community.
