Help Sachem Schools get the NYS Funding we were promised! Save our education!
The Issue
The Sachem School District is in dire need. New York State has taken away the money that we were told was allocated to us and it has left us in a predicament that does not allow us to fulfill the basic educational needs our students.
We are in the process of potentially cutting teachers, teacher assistants, increasing class size (the days of 40 in the room could be coming) sports, clubs, bussing, etc. The future of our community is dependent on these monies that were promised and it is our responsibility to give our students the resources necessary for a proper education.
As an elected official you have a responsibility to our community. Our school district is one of the largest in the state with over 16,000 students served from areas including Lake Ronkonkoma, Holbrook, Holtsville, Farmingville, and Nesconset. We are a politically savvy community that knows the power of democracy and believe in the motto "out of many, one." We come to you united and asking for your help.
Please do everything in your power to reinstate the money that was promised to our district. The Sachem community is known for many things but two stick out. Their love of what is fair for their children and also for having a fantastic memory. Let us remember your name as a fighter for us when it is time to walk into a voting booth.
As you contemplate this, please accept my invitation to come visit our schools, meet our kids, meet the faculty, and walk our halls. It may just be a visit to but to us its our home. We truly need your leadership now. Will you fight for what is right?
Every June, Sachem Seniors (all 1100 or so get certificates from elected politicians congratulating them on completing high school. When your paper passes their desk let them recall the noise you made on behalf of their education as well as extra curricular so that they may have a fair chance at being college ready or work ready. It's just the right thing to do.
Take action and be the name that we remember as fighting for our students basic rights to an education!
Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter.
