The Verdict is In!
Sep 16, 2016 — Hi Everyone,
Before I begin with this post, I want to apologize first and foremost about the lack of updates. I have been busy working behind the scenes on the petition that I have not been able to write you all and let you know what is going on. But now, I feel that I can. Brace yourselves because the verdict is finally in.
Over the last month and a half, I have been working with several people who have been a big part of our petition, trying to put everything together to send to the Kennedy Center. Carrie Nutley, Julie-Ellis Richards, and Laura Merritt have all helped me in putting the petition together to send to the Kennedy Center and I want to thank them for their contributions, as well as their time and energy.
Carrie and I sent the petition out on August 1st initially to the President of the Kennedy Center, Deborah Rutter. We did not hear anything over the course of the month of August, but after sending it a second time, we finally received a response back on Wednesday.
Unfortunately, it is with great disappointment that I inform everyone that the Kennedy Center WILL NOT include Don Felder, Bernie Leadon, and Randy Meisner to be honored.
Ms. Rutter's full statement is the following: "The Kennedy Center consulted with the Eagles and through that discussion, it was determined that the four band members who "carried the torch" --Don Henley, the late Glenn Frey, Timothy B. Schmit, and Joe Walsh--will be awarded the Honors. We appreciate that there will be some debate about who constitutes the Eagles. This determination does not discredit the contributions of former band members."
I am very disappointed in the decision made by the Kennedy Center. But at the same time, I have solace in knowing that the Kennedy Center heard every single one of us loud and clear. It is because of you all that they did respond to us at all because they typically don't. They would just ignore it.
I have asked Mrs. Rutter to possibly consider inviting them because if they do not discredit the contributions these individuals have made, the least they can do is invite them so they can feel a sense of pride and accomplishment watching the tributes from their fellow artists. If I receive anything I will keep you posted if I can.
But for now, I have decided to close the petition.
I want to thank every single one of you one last time, who have signed and supported this petition from the beginning. It is because of you, why we were able to get to the Kennedy Center and get a response. It might not have been the result we wanted, but the fact they even responded to us at all, please find solace in that our voices were heard loud and clear.
I want to send one final message to Don, Bernie, and Randy if they or anyone within their families read this. Please know that 10,000 plus Eagles fans across the globe believe your contributions to the band will not be forgotten. Regardless of the outcome of this petition, you should feel a sense of accomplishment and pride knowing your contributions are going to be heard by generations to come like "Hotel California", or "Take It To the Limit", or "Witchy Woman". They will be played for years to come. I think that is a lot better than having a medal placed across your chest.
Thank you everyone! God Bless and "Take it Easy".
