Right site for Oxfordshire new town is not Chalgrove or Harrington
This petition had 996 supporters
The recommendation by SODC to build a new town in South Oxfordshire at sites of Chalgrove or Harrington is not the best answer to Oxfordshire's future housing needs.
The currently favoured site(s) do not adequately consider the effect upon pristine countryside, biodiversity, environmental impact and major traffic implications.
Alternative green belt sites more clearly fit SODC's own 8 criteria particularly in relation to settlements, infrastructure and community. Sites such as Grenoble Road, Wicks Farm and Culham are well situated to provide housing on the doorstep of need.
There is clear exceptional housing and economic reasons to reconsider the sites that the Council have discounted.
We call on the Council to reconsider their recommendations. The best answer for Oxfordshire has been discounted and now is the time to act.
