The statue of King Kong — that for years graced lower Digbeth/Deritend — is still missed by many Birmingham people. King Kong was a great example of how a larger-than-life, humorous, art work can add greatly to the culture of a city.  Quite simply we loved King Kong. He made us smile. King Kong is a much part of the city's cultural heritage as is, say, the statue of the Lunar Men in Broad Street.

After years of display at the Skirsgill Auction Mart in Penrith the real cultural value of King Kong is now being recognised — but in Leeds! The statue will be exhibited at the Henry More Institute as part of the 'City Sculptures' exhibition until February 2017.

It is now time to bring King Kong home to Birmingham.

We call of Birmingham City Council to use its best endeavours (together with those of key partners) to either secure the purchase of King Kong or to come to an arrangement with the owners to secure a permanent alone and exhibition site for the statue in Birmimgham.
