Help, don't hinder, small independent businesses in Tower Hamlets
The Issue
Small businesses in Tower Hamlets are treated by the council as an obstruction to the multinational juggernaut that thunders through the borough, rather than the heart of the community. We are the victims of arbitrary and punitive measures which will push many businesses, already struggling to afford skyrocketing rents, rates and bills, into bankruptcy.
We are being forced to comply with unreasonably expensive and restrictive measures relating to our ability to display merchandise in front of our property, and the way we dispose of our waste, under threat of fines and court procedures. Please read our open letter for details of how the measures being enforced will impact our businesses.
We are petitioning the council to consider us as a necessary part of the community and not an inconvenience, and therefore not to penalise us financially in every way imaginable, but instead to work with us for the good of all residents of the borough.
Please add your signature to petition John Biggs to push through legislative changes that will prevent the council from unfairly targeting small businesses like ours.
