State of Louisiana: Remove the Christopher Columbus statue downtown Baton Rouge, LA.

State of Louisiana: Remove the Christopher Columbus statue downtown Baton Rouge, LA.
The Issue
All across the country, cities are taking steps to remove monuments and change the name of parks and other public facilities that celebrate the brutal slave-holding legacy of the Confederacy and its most prominent figures.
Christopher Columbus has historically been viewed as the hero who discovered America, yet studies have proven that his “discovery” was inaccurate.
Christopher Columbus was responsible for widespread genocide; rape, murder, mutations & enslavement of indigenous people. The evil deeds of Columbus far outweigh the few accomplishments he has achieved.
We call for the Baton Rouge City Council & Governor John Bel Edwards to remove the statue of Christopher Columbus in front of USS Kidd Museum/War Memorial, across from the RiverCenter in Downtown, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
