The Awareness for Prison Overcrowding

The Awareness for Prison Overcrowding

The Issue

The petition is to create a change to the Criminal Justice System and their decisions when it comes to prison sentencing and their circumstances involving it. There are ways to reduce prison overcrowding without more prisons being built and economic issues with it. In this petition, it will be discussing who and how prison overcrowding was impacted and how it can be solved.

Who does it affect:

Prisoners
Convicted Criminals
Law Enforcement
Prison Staff
Judges
Citizens with Mental Issues

How does it affect them:

Prisoners-

Mental Illness
Change in Behavior
Un-humane Condition
Unsanitary Condition
Violence and Injury
Suicide
Lack of Resource

Law Enforcement-

Overworking
Increase of Anxiety & Stress
Understaffed
Lack of Resources

Convicted Criminal-

Reduced Sentence
Evading Their Crimes

And More...

Here are the solutions:

1. Identify the criminals' illegal actions and find ways to adjust their sentencing into something more suitable.
2. If the criminal's actions or behavior deduces into something more pleasant, there is a reduction of their sentence and an increase of parole.
3. If prisoner’s struggle with addiction or mental illness, they’re allowed to be sent to rehabilitation and therapy with parole.
4. The non-violent prisoners who were discharged from their reduced times and get involved or repeat past crimes or get involved in violent behavior. Their time in prison is gradually reduced.
