Elephants are an amazing species and deserve to live a long life. When they are hunted for their ivory and tusks, they are just left there. The tusks and ivory are gone but the rest of the elephant sits in the wilderness.

There was a ban of ivory in the international trade on January 18, 1990 created by The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora. Even though there is ban, there are still a large amount of elephants being killed each year.

California, Nevada, Oregon, Hawaii, New York, New Jersey and Washington are the only US states that entirely prohibit the sale of ivory. This helps deter the poaching of elephants for their ivory, but many states don’t entirely prohibit it.

Poaching still continues to thrive today because of corruption and no law enforcement which causes the efforts to help end poaching lessen and become weaker.

Sign this petition to help me send a message to the White House and create more awareness of the importation of ivory and how many states still do not entirely ban the ownership of it. The killing of elephants is not okay and they should not be killed in order to make them into products or for sport. Elephants are a magnificent animal and they deserve to be protected.
