Amanda Lopez was arrested on November 10th, 2014 with first degree premeditated murder charges against her physically and emotionally abusive boyfriend.

This act was NOT premeditated, and Amanda has NO history of violence.

She was acting in self defense.

Amanda Lopez was given bad legal council, and coerced to enter a guilty plea to these charges. And because Amanda is a person of color - her sentence is longer than what is standard in cases of white women in the same situation. 

I have personally known Amanda for about three years now.

We've been writing to each other regularly, doing video calls, and I've gotten to know, love and respect her. 

She is truly a kind and gentle soul who is strong in her faith.

And she's a young, smart woman who wants to bring positivity into the world.

Amanda wants to get a degree in Business Management and start her own business when she is able to get back into the world. 

Amanda Lopez could be any woman of color in America without significant wealth or status - acting in self defense to save her own life, and being punished with a prison sentence that will cost her the best years of her life.

Can you imagine spending 25 years in prison for defending your own life?

I can't. 

And as a white woman with access to good legal council, if I were in that same position, I wouldn't have to. 

This is what has to change.
